Double Bazooka Dipole

The Double Bazooka Dipole is a very efficient antenna which is very quite, is very broad banded, and does not require the use of a balun. This antenna was originally designed for radar use but was popularized by W8TV for amateur use. This antenna consist of a half wavelength piece of coax (RG58) with the shield split at the center and the feedline attached to the open ends. Do not break the center conductor. With the feedline attached directly to the two open ends this acts as a half wave dipole along with the open wire end sections. 300 or 450 ladder line can be used respectively. This antenna can be cut for any operating frequency although its broad band characteristics are best shown on the lower frequencies. It can be mounted as a flat top or an inverted vee and will handle the legal limit.
